Cape Cod Remodel, Fox Point, WI
Architecture & Interior Design
The renovation of this 1937 Cape Cod home focused on bringing renewed functionality and aesthetics to the kitchen and main bath. The clients sought a modern refresh that reflected the home’s character while solving long-standing inefficiencies to bring new life to these essential home spaces.
Design Vision
In the kitchen, improved workflow, more prep space and brighter finishes were desired. The connection to the breakfast nook was expanded with new double pocket doors. Unused soffit space was reclaimed, raising the ceiling for new, taller cabinetry that provided more efficient storage with roll-out trays, adjustable shelving, and an appliance garage. New flush-mounted light fixtures, downlights, and undercabinet lighting improved the ambient and task lighting, transforming the kitchen into a brightened heart of the home.
A small, secondary entrance adjacent to the kitchen was cramped between a closet and stair to the lower level. Revived with a new custom bench, floating shelves, durable tile and updated lighting created a roomier feel and practical everyday storage.
The once tiny and awkward shower was expanded beneath the roof slope. Enrobed in marble, it now includes a bench, niche storage, and triple showerheads for an elevated experience. The new floating shelves above a faux cabinet create an inconspicuous slope that reclaims space from the rising staircase behind the wall. The new vanity was relocated into the dormer nook, preserving the window with a ceiling-hung mirror, and wall sconces that balance function with daylighting. Moving the toilet and clever cabinetry tucked into formerly unused wall cavities further optimized the space and added storage.
This remodel balances design details with practical improvements, resulting in spaces that are brighter, more functional, and beautifully in tune with the home’s original character.
