Master Suite Renovation – Traditional
This historic remodeling project involved transforming an 1890’s Gothic Revival house to fit the updated lifestyle of our client. The owners wanted to update their residence to include modern luxuries while still maintaining the integrity of the home’s original aesthetic. The new design combined bedrooms & closets into a new master suite layout that boasts a large bedroom, dressing room, & en suite bath.
The solution makes use of matching the original elaborate moldings and details, but restrains their over-exuberance through a monochromatic palate to give the house a transitional appeal. The design seamlessly blends the remodeled areas into the existing context and creates a cohesive and compelling whole.
The master bedroom layout allows for a gracious sleeping environment including seating space to celebrate the renovated fireplace. Accent lighting allows the bedroom to fit any mood and enables the couple’s art collection to be brought to life with a museum quality. The master suite created a large, naturally lit walk-in closet with a private dressing area that links the bedroom and bath together.
In the bath, space utilization is maximized with all mirrors double functioning as medicine cabinets and wood pilasters that pullout to become personal storage at the dual vanity areas. Updated plumbing fixtures give the bath a modern appeal while marrying to the residence’s traditional roots. The ceiling molding emulates the corner detail of the inset marble floor tile. Large windows flood natural light to make the space feel light and airy while still maintaining privacy with decorative glass window treatment.
The result is a design that creates a sojourn-like master suite that supports our owners’ current lifestyle while respecting the historic roots of the original home design.
