Vibrant Transitional Remodel

This traditional family home was in need of a refresh to update and brighten the existing scheme. Having raised a family here, and making some updates along the way, it was now time to pay tribute and bring the rest of the home forward in this vibrant remodel. The challenges were improving the layout, uniting the style with previous remodels, and using color to compliment the client’s personality to better reflect its Lake Michigan locale.

Phase I of the whole house transformation was the fresh new kitchen that supports a love of lake living, a happy color palette and large family gatherings. What was originally an L-shaped design was reimagined to enhance function, integrate with the Family Room, and reflect back the brightness of the lake. The interior design greatly enhances the vaulted ceiling and included new clerestory windows, cove lighting and decorative light fixtures. Modern touches blend seamlessly with vintage elements to create a sense of history for a client with eclectic sensibilities.

In Phase II, the existing plan had an underutilized entrance, so opening the foyer to create a natural promenade to the living room and views beyond make for an impressionable greeting.

To achieve unity with previous remodels, we balanced modern and traditional elements. To complement existing polished brass hardware, we intentionally mixed metals introducing elements of nickel among lighting, drapery and hardware creating a collected look.

The client’s love for color was tastefully woven throughout the home. Modern fabrics and wallcovering in colorful florals and dimensional patterns are supported by vibrant furniture pieces and complimentary accessories. A light a cheerful palette provided consistency throughout.

Making the overall scheme cheerful with a splash of drama enlivened the design and brought a cohesive finish throughout, resulting in a refreshed home to be enjoyed into their next phase of life.
