Cottage Charm

Transitional Bathroom Remodel, Big Cedar Lake, WI

Architecture, Interior Design & Furnishings

Homeowners had been remodeling their lake home in stages and this small bathroom was last on the list. The bathroom definitely did not fit the rest of the home’s updated lake living style.  The clients did not want a “cookie cutter” fix.  They wanted casual elegance with an impact!

Design Vision

The primary challenge for this bathroom remodel was space.  Although the vanity and shower remained the same size, finishes were chosen to magnify the room. The starting point was actually a favorite rug in the kitchen.  The crisp blue and white rug would be the palette to make this bathroom on the lake set sail! The remodel of the bathroom actually began outside the room.  A wall in the hallway was turned into a half wall to open up the entrance to the bathroom.  This decision, along with continuing the hardwood flooring from the hallway into the bathroom, was essential to make the bathroom feel larger upon entering.

Distinctive Features

Repetition began with a bold and circular mirror installed above a classic white cabinet with quartz countertop.  The “Midas Touch” was applied roundly with brass knobs by Alno, satin brass towel ring, and widespread faucet by Phylrich. The shower was made the center of attention with striking cement tiles in navy and white to create a lasting artistic flair.  Penny round tiles were installed on the shower floor in denim navy to keep repeating the theme.  Gold polished off the fixtures that included Phylrich shower head, shower trim, and towel bars. The homeowners were thrilled to have their small bathroom receive a grand revival!  The project completed in April of 2018 and now the home can be fully enjoyed by all that visit this lake cottage.
