Island Accent

Modern Kitchen and Dining Addition, Cedar Grove, WI

Architecture, Interior Design & Furnishings

The new open design places the kitchen as the heart of the home, defined by vaulted ceilings and bathed in natural light from roof windows above.

Design Vision

The well thought out design solution that applies the disciplines of architecture and interior principals, results in a fresh modern influenced environment that integrally connects to the existing home and the natural surrounds of woods and water. The Deep River Interior design team complimented the architecture with earth tone furnishings that maintain a clean aesthetic. The holistic approach of synthesizing architecture and interior attributes ensures an environment that is seem-less in its design character.

Distinctive Features

This kitchen remodeling expanded into an adjacent dining room to increase its size, connect it to the existing living room, and feature the lake view in this new open plan. A new addition adjacent to the kitchen expansion provides a new dining area. Sliding glass doors on both sides of the room allow for an open for feel.A covered grilling area on one side opens to the woodland view while the other side accesses the deck with the beach and lake view beyond. The central island features reclaimed glass aggregate reminiscent of beach walk treasures. The clean aesthetic, achieved using metal and glass cabinet doors, metal backsplash tile, and a flush door style is tempered and warmed by zebra veneer and walnut cabinet fronts.Aging in place techniques were employed to ensure ease of use extending the design relevance. Ergonomic product selections, such as wide cabinet pulls that allow easy gripping and wall ovens that reduce bending, make the Kitchen easy to use. Contrasting colors visually define surfaces, and the commercial grade vinyl floor adds foot and joint comfort.

“Making all of the decisions ahead of construction and creating a thorough set of documents meant our bids were accurate and protected us against price creep.”
