Lake Michigan Residence
Designed to respond to this Client’s love of California light and natural Midwest materials we chose to juxtapose native Lannon stone, and hard edged aluminum windows. Warm cherry soffits contrast the silver metal trim. Horizontal lines and deep overhangs suggest the Prairie style in this contemporary interpretation.
The street facade is strong and speaks of security while the lake elevation harmoniously gives way to the awesome view of the ever changing water. The curvilinear curtain wall of floor to ceiling glass provides a constant rhythm that stands in partnership with the lake. The curtain wall looks like the lake sounds.
Architecturally integrated and special effect lighting enhances the purity of the natural materials that are in slight tension with the clean architectural forms. Dramatic light defines the design and provides luminous living.
The main activity rooms of Kitchen, Dining, Family, and Living flow with the water front culminating with the Guest and Master Suites. The Master Suite opens to the unencumbered Roof Terrace with breathtaking views. The attached bath is the “in home spa” that caused the owner to exclaim, “We are so glad we never have to worry about check out time!”
